OligoScan Testing:

The cutting edge OligoScan makes, in real time, a precise analysis of the minerals in the skin, peripheral blood vessels and muscle tissue. No biopsy, blood or hair sample is needed.

What does the OligoScan measure?

OligoScan allows a practitioner to make a quick and precise analysis of the mineral and heavy metals in the tissues of their patient. The measurement is made in minutes in the practitioners clinic using a portable spectrophotometer device (i.e. the handscanner). The collected data from a patient is sent in a few clicks to the secure central server at OligoScan and we get back the results within a few seconds.

The OligoScan reports on 20 different minerals and 10 different heavy metals. The minerals include calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, silicon, sodium, potassium, copper, zinc, iron, manganese, chromium, vanadium, boron, cobalt, molybdenum, iodine, lithium, germanium, selenium and sulphur. The heavy metals include aluminium, antimony, silver, arsenic, barium, beryllium, bismuth, cadmium, mercury, nickel, platinum, lead, thallium, and thorium.

How does the OligoScan work?

The method used by the OligoScan to obtain results on the amount of trace elements in tissues is spectrophotometry. It is a quantitative analytical method, which consists in measuring the absorbance or the optical density of a chemical substance. The basic principle is that every chemical compound (including minerals and heavy metals) absorbs, emits or reflects light over a certain range of wavelength. The more the sample is concentrated, the more it absorbs the light within the limits of proportionality expressed in the law Beer-Lambert. The spectrophotometry is used in many domains: chemistry, pharmacy, environment, food-processing industry, biology, medical /clinical, material/chemical engineering and clinical applications and many others.

What are the advantages of this system?

The OligoScan is a very quick pain-free test. No blood, hair or biopsy samples are required. Results can be obtained within minutes on the first appointment, so there is no delay in treatment recommendations being provided by the practitioner. In addition, follow-up scans can be performed to monitor any changes in minerals and heavy metal levels. In comparison to other tests for heavy metal levels it is safe, as no provocation by a chelating agent is required (which can make some clients unwell). It is also a great system for testing children over the age of 2.

How much does it cost?

The Holistic Pharmacist charges $295 for each OligoScan test which includes a full report and action protocol personalized to suit the needs of the client. At times a simple comparative Oligoscan is performed on a monthly or bi monthly basis at a reduced cost, $185, with a simple report noting change or issues only. This is in addition to the standard consultation charge. The scan can be performed during either an initial consultation or at a 45 minute follow-up consultation.

We will need to know your blood type for the OligoScan.

Will it hurt?

The OligoScan procedure is quick, simple and painfree. The portable OligoScan spectrophotometer (i.e hand scanner) is lightly rested on the muscle of your hand for two seconds, in four different places.

Can the OligoScan be performed on children?

Yes the OligoScan is great for testing children's mineral and heavy metal levels, since it is so quick and painless.
No blood drawer is necessary.

Note: OligoScan is presently only performed on children 2 years of age or older.
